“No matter how hard the past is, you can always begin again.” — Buddha
Introduction
I never cared about “important” dates and anniversaries. I was young (and still am) and trying too hard to be eccentric. For this reason, I did not care for things like birthdays, Christmas, New Year, etc. After all, they are all social constructs, right?
I was wrong and here’s why.
Reasons to Celebrate A New Beginning
- Seeing a new year, turning a year older, or having the chance to celebrate with loved ones is a blessing. It is, therefore, a sign of ungratefulness if we take any of these things for granted.
- New beginnings are a chance to start over. To reset. Each new day we are blessed to see, is a chance for a new beginning. A chance to correct (not dwell on) the mistakes of the past. A chance to take a step back and regroup. When you begin, all the doors are open. Limitless possibilities lie before you. The future is a blank slate, yet to be written.
Welcome to September. We have in September a chance to do better, to be better. Take that course you’ve been wanting to take. Call that person you’ve been missing. Do what you failed to do in August. There’ll never be a better time to start than now.
We were made new in Christ by the waters of baptism and “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17. Our sins and mistakes are behind us and we are called to live holy lives. Make a conscious decision to leave your old ways behind.
My prayer this month
My prayer this month is the words of two beautiful songs about revival. Revive us again by W. P. Mackay (1863, 1867), and I need a revival by T. Hope. Here is the song as sung by the Celestial chorus choir, molyko Buea. You can find the music sheet here.
“Ignite my soul with passion for your word, Lord I pray to you, Open my eyes to all I’ve been blind to so Ill walk in you Take all my fears away Lord strengthen my faith in you oh I pray to you, Lord.
Revive my spirit and soul
So that I will not depart from your ways
Revive my spirit and soul, that is my desire”
Happy new month
